What is City of Craft?
That's a very good question. The short answer is that City of Craft is both a small collective that presents and supports Toronto crafty activities and a large-scale annual craft fair and exhibition. The long answer is here.
What is City of Craft 2008?
City of Craft 2008 is an innovative craft culture event that features craft-based installations, free workshops, outreach by community arts groups and a curated craft fair of modern handmade goods. This year’s event will also feature craft related activities in West Queen West businesses and galleries, making this a neighbourhood affair.
How many participants are there at City of Craft 2008?
Between vendors, community exhibitors installation operators, workshop instructors, and satellite activities we will have about 60 organisations, businesses and individuals participating in the City of Craft show this year.
How many years has City of Craft been happening?
This will be year two. 2007 was our first year.
How do I apply?
Applications are now closed, and our waiting list is substantial. Feel free to let us know if you want to be added to our participant mailing list at cityofcraft@gmail.com so you don't miss out on future opportunities to participate in our programming.
How are participants selected?
All of our events are programmed in different ways - some are curated and invitational (sometimes programmed by guest curators), some are lotteries, some are free-for-alls. The big winter show, however, is juried by the City of Craft collective (Jen, Becky & Leah) and invited guests. In the name of full disclosure, it should be said that the collective member's life partners also get automatic acceptance for living with City of Craft all over their homes for months. Some installation artists are also negotiated with outside of an application process.
Do you need volunteers? And can I be one?
